China’s missing public data: Using alternative datasets to fill the gaps

In response to Beijing’s systematic efforts to stop publishing hundreds of key official statistics, including land sales, unemployment data, and foreign investment flows metrics, we have produced a collection of alternative data tools, mostly from local providers, which can address the data gaps faced by investors.

This Intelligence report outlines the alternative datasets that can help fill the void left by China's disappearing official statistics. Drawing on sources primarily within the country, we highlight practical proxies that investors can use when considering these opaque sectors.
