Can retail investor sentiment on social media influence stock prices? Demand for social media data has risen in the past few months, likely a result of the recent meme stock rallies in the US and APAC markets. This has caused investors to turn to social media data to get early insights into which stock is likely to be affected next. In this article, we examine a paper which assesses the correlation between X (Twitter) sentiment of retail investors and stock market prices in Southeast Asian markets.
