Consumer transaction data is arguably the star of the alternative data world, yet for those seeking coverage beyond the US, supply has historically been limited. This is now starting to change, driven in particular by European developments in open banking.
While European consumer transaction data supply certainly still falls short when compared to the US landscape, we expect this gap to begin to narrow in 2021. In this research piece, we provide an overview of the current state of the European consumer transaction data market and highlight some promising new entrants. We also review what we perceive to be some of the opportunities and challenges in this area.
