Tariffs and trade wars are back in the spotlight
Tariffs have been making headlines once again, with President Trump announcing a 50% tariff on a range of Canadian goods on 19th August. On 24th August, the President clarified that this would include a 50% tariff on automotive goods beginning in January 2027. Subsequently, Canada announced $20bn of retaliatory tariffs on US goods on 25th August, matching the US’s 50% tariff rate. Tariffs have been cited as one of the main factors contributing to economic instability, but what is the current state of play?
